We have been seeing an alarming rise in environmental damage across the US. And if we don’t act soon enough, all those apocalyptic movies we have seen will become our reality. Climate emergencies aren’t new we’re just late to the show. Therefore, we need strong schemes to avert disaster, protect lifeforms, and restore our planet. Among such suitable resources is ‘Renewable Energy.’ Sounds fancy right? Well, it’s a lot simpler than you think. In this blog, we are attempting to explore Renewable Energy as a subject and the future we can shape through it. Let’s dive in!

What Does ‘Renewable Energy’ Mean?

Renewable means power derived from resources that won’t die down anytime soon. Take solar power for instance; in this case, the Sun is a consistent medium, and sunlight is used to produce electrical energy effectively. Renewable energy isn’t new; it’s the oldest method in the book. We have been using it on small scales since the dawn of time. Whether it’s sundials or moving water, we have created energy in various ways.

The lack of depletion isn’t the only appeal it has; the fact that it doesn’t harm the environment only sweetens the deal. You can also refer to it as ‘Clean Energy,’ ‘Sustainable Energy,’ or ‘Green Energy.’

Unlike fossil fuels, coals, and similar mediums, renewable energy sources don’t release harmful greenhouse gases. However, certain forms of these gases need to be maintained accordingly to fit the ‘sustainable’ criteria. According to an article by National Geographic, there are five major forms of renewable energy:

Hydropower

In its kinetic form, water can be a powerful asset. Whether it’s the harsh river currents or sturdy ocean waves, with pressure and speed, water can be used to generate clean energy.

Wind

Wind turbines are an accessible and affordable energy resource. We see how birds use strong winds to steer themselves and keep momentum.

Solar

Highly adaptable and applicable on both small and large scales. Not only do we see it in homes but also in industrial sectors in underdeveloped areas.

Biomass

Biofuels, gases released from landfills, and recycled waste are just some of the common examples. This one is tricky as the nature of released chemicals and reactions can both harm and benefit the atmosphere.

Geothermal

Constantly available, unlike its wind and solar counterparts. The temperature from below the ground can be used to tweak the one on the surface.

Though reliable, all these forms contain both benefits and drawbacks.

Why Do We Need it?

Now that we’ve established what renewable energy is, it’s time for the bigger question, Why is it so essential?

– Infinite and Accessible

For as long as the planet exists, we are free to utilize these resources. Unlike non-renewable alternatives, these don’t have an expiration date. The best part is the unbiased and equal access people have. The sun shines the same for an elite businessman and a blue-collar worker. It’s an investment that can get your energy needs sorted for a good amount of time.

– Affordable

Petrol prices are touching the sky and electricity bills take up a major chunk of our finances. The common plight of the current society is mainly related to energy costs. If we move to less intense means, saving money can be a lot easier. Moreover, their maintenance is also cheaper than other non-renewable options.

– Eco-friendly

Fewer emissions and a low carbon footprint can make our air breathable. With the air quality index being unreasonably high, there is no telling how the pollutants are impacting us. From the fuel in our vehicles to the big machinery, almost everything is running on toxic materials. By choosing renewable energy, we ensure a cleaner tomorrow for ourselves and future generations.

– More Jobs

We will need designated crews to operate and manage renewable systems. This leads to a great number of job opportunities. Especially in rural and less urban areas with scarce work.

– Multifaceted

Based on research by REN21, clean energies can contribute to multiple sectors. Whether it’s household applications or high-scale developments, every part of our lives can be powered by sustainable measures.

– Good for the Economy

Expensive energy sources are hard to extract, obtain, or even import. But the renewable energy forms are present almost everywhere across the globe. This allows regions with low financial stability to smartly make their own energy.

– Secure Energy

The anxiety surrounding fossil fuels is real. The relevant forms are not only harming the planet, but we’ll run out of them soon too. Knowing that the energy we make is clean and reliable is a huge relief, one that is reachable through renewable sources.

How Do We Achieve a Renewable Future?

While it may initially cost a lot, the results are worth it. Integrating renewable energy slowly into our businesses and big sectors can be made possible through planning and dedication. The effort starts with individuals, units, companies, and more. Spectrum Internet is a decent example of an environmentally aware company. Not only is Spectrum customer service highly aware of its digital responsibilities but the company tries to minimize its carbon footprint as well through effective.

Challenges

Although encouraged, renewable energy establishment is no easy feat. There are many obstacles to consider, such as:

The installment and setup costs

Bad weather can alter the state of the energy

The sites may not be as accessible at first

Devices need to be recycled

Hurricanes, ozone depletion, forest fires, and so much more.
